Showing Love by Obedience and Patience
Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I noticed something in the Scriptures the other day. Isaiah 64:4 says, "For since the beginning of the world
Grace to you.
have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O
God, besides thee,
he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him." When Paul
quotes this verse he says, "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him" (1 Corinthians 2:9). Did you notice that in Isaiah the blessings are promised for him that waiteth on the LORD? In Paul's letter, the blessings are for those who love the Lord. Have you ever connected patience with love?
I was meeting with the man who asked me to disciple him. I was sharing this connection about love and patience with him. I told him that we wait on the Lord to act on our behalf because we trust Him. We trust Him because we have come to know He loves us, and therefore we love Him. We are patient with those we love because we trust God with them. The young man shared with me that he had been talking with his children and reminded them that the Lord Jesus said, If ye love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15).
As we thought about this, he had a revelation. For those who have authority over us, we show love by obedience. For those who are under our authority, we show love by being patient with them. We show God our love for Him by keeping His commandments, by our obedience. We experience His love by His patience with us. Wow!
