Acceptable Year of the Lord
Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Soon the world will celebrate the New Year. We have a year to celebrate. It is a year that has been going on now for many years (Hallelujah!).
Grace to you.
When the Lord Jesus began His earthly ministry, He did it in Nazareth in the synagogue:
sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptiable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and gave
minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this Scripture fulfilled in your ears.
The acceptable year of the Lord began at that time. The Apostle Paul tells us that, ". . . behold, now
the accepted time; behold, now
the day of salvation"
(2 Corinthians 6:2b).
Today is the day of salvation. Now is the accepted time. The acceptable year of the Lord is ongoing: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13).
Are you poor? Are you brokenhearted? Do you need deliverance? Do you need sight? Are you bruised and need liberty? There is a Saviour. His name is Jesus. He, through the Holy Spirit, through His apostle, has promised, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9).
Have you ever looked at the passage the Lord read in Nazareth? Did you know He stopped in the middle of Isaiah 61:2, in the midst of a sentence? Aren't you glad that He stopped at the acceptable year of the Lord? and the day of vengeance hasn't come yet? It is still the acceptable year of the Lord, and that is worth celebrating.
