Beloved: Grace and Peace
Elkmont Baptist Church
Dearest and Beloved
Single and Complete
Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I want to speak to the young people who are single during this season of their lives. The world tells you that you need a boyfriend, or a girlfriend, or a husband, or wife to be complete. The world is hard on single people during the holidays. What saith the Scripture?
Grace to you.
The Scripture tells us, "And ye are
which is the head of all
principality and power:" (Colossians 2:10; bold added). The Apostle Paul teaches us that all we need to be complete is Jesus!
Why do we feel so empty sometimes? The world mistakenly thinks that a husband, or wife, or boyfriend, or girlfriend will fill the emptiness. What they do not recognize is that emptiness is one of the two witnesses God gives everyone. The Book of Ecclesiastes tells us, "The whole He hath made beautiful in its season; also, that
hath put in their heart without which man findeth not out the work that God hath done from the beginning even unto the end" (Ecclesiastes 3:11, Young's Literal Translation; bold added). The New King James translates this verse this way: "He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put
in their hearts, except that no
one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end" (bold added). He has made everything beautiful in its season (even your single season); and He has put a eternity in our hearts without which we would not seek Him. He has put a hole so big that only Jesus can fill it. And that is what causes us to seek Him.
With Jesus, we are complete. Without Him, there is a hole so big in us that eternity fits there. Who else could fill eternity?
complete in him,
