Beloved: Grace and Peace
Elkmont Baptist Church
Dearest and Beloved
Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I am not sure, but I feel impressed to tell you a story. First, you should know I can pray long and loud, but sometimes it is the simple prayers through which God accomplishes so much.
I was coming into work several years ago, and I met one of my co-workers who was heading home to come back in the evening. She said the cooling towers had gone offline, and all three reactor units were having to lower power because of the river temperature being high. My response was, "O, God, send the rain." My co-worker told me later that before she got to her car, the raindrops began falling. There had been no hint of rain. She also said that she had never believed in God before that. God's answer to that brief prayer was more for her, than it was for the power plant.
I never know which of my prayers will be answered like that. So many are not, but some are. Many years ago, the plant used to have problems with one particular system which we had to test monthly. Whenever it was my turn to run the test on the system, I would go praying that God would cause the system to work right. I got a reputation back then of being the only one who could complete that test without any problems.
"Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favor in thy sight, that thou wouldest sent me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchers, that I may build it" (Nehemiah 2:4-5). Nehemiah had been praying much (see Nehemiah 1), but it was his simple prayer that had an immediate response.
Grace to you.
