Training Children by Godly Wisdom
Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. "But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle,
Ekklesia,
Grace to you.
and
easy to be
entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace" (James 3:17-18).
James tells us how to recognize wisdom from God. He also tells how to recognize the wisdom of the world:
"But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but
is
earthly, sensual, devilish. For
where envying and strife
is
, there
is
confusion and every evil work" (James 3:14-16).
When it comes to teaching our children, which wisdom are we using? Are we using the wisdom from above which is "peaceable" and "gentle", and "without hypocrisy"? Wisdom which is "full of mercy and good fruit", and "sown in peace"? Or are we using the "earthly" and "devilish" wisdom which strives with our children, attempting to teach them while they strive with one another from envy? This only produces "confusion and every evil work."
The best time to teach children is during times of peace, not during times of strife. I cannot save, nor sanctify my children. But for their sakes, I can follow my Lord Jesus.
He says, "And for their sakes I sanctify myself, they they also might be sanctified through the truth" (John 17:19).
And I can continue to read the Word to them during times of peace believing that faith does come by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
