We Reap What We Sow
Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. What saith the Scriptures about consequences? Moses told the children of Israel, "But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32:23). Paul tells us, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" (Galatians 6:7-8).
Grace to you.
Don't we always think we won't get caught? David tells us in Psalms 10 the results of this thinking: "He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see
it. . . .
Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart,
Thou wilt not require
" (Psalm 10:11, 13). David tells us this is wicked behavior.
Paul tells us, "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12).
If I could teach you one thing (as well as teach myself), it is this: God is not mocked. Whatsoever we sow we will reap. Each of us has to learn the truth of this for himself.
True character is revealed not in the presence of those we respect or fear, but in their absence. When we think no one is watching; when we think no one is listening; when we think we won't get caught; when we think God doesn't care, or He has forgotten; be sure your sin will find you out.
What do we do when we think no one is watching or listening?
Please don't think God is a spoilsport. Know that He is holy, holy, holy. And we must become holy, because He is holy. He chastens every son or daughter according to His will, for our good, that we may share his holiness and grow in us the peaceable fruit of righteousness.
I have written words of sober truth. May these words be united in our hearts with faith.
